Citizens Business Banking Sr Credit Risk in Boston, Massachusetts

The Business Banking Sr Credit Risk has Second Line of Defense responsibility for the Asset Quality, Risk Appetite, and Risk/Reward balance of the bank’s Business Banking loan portfolio. This includes strategizing and proactively guiding First Line of Defense credit risk management activities and setting responsibilities for appropriately managing the loan portfolios and related products or services. Ensure adherence to portfolio strategic objectives, credit policies and all related administrative procedures. Highly visible senior management leadership role requiring decisiveness and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to prioritize and operate in a multi-tasked and geographically dispersed environment both independently and expediently. Must be able to develop trust and collaborative relationships in an indirect cross-functional team environment.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Governance and oversight for Retail Credit Authority, Asset Quality, and Credit Policy.

  • Independently reviews and challenges credit risk strategies and policy change proposals.

  • Provides guidance to first line credit risk partners for asset quality reporting, targeted reviews to gain deeper understanding of originations and portfolio performance, and analytics to support credit policy enhancements focused on risk/reward benefits.

  • Partners with the Risk and Analytics Center of Excellence and the business line to propose enhancements to critical credit risk management reporting, including Asset Quality Reporting/Reviews, Compliance Summary Reporting, Lending Authority and Decisioning Management Reporting, and other reporting/analytics, that provide views and assist in identifying origination and portfolio trends.

  • Provides expertise input to business line and various partners (i.e., Model Development) to improve and enhance the credit risk program.

  • Contribute to important projects as assigned and/or independently identified, particularly those focused on credit risk management effectiveness, increased credit risk management or credit delivery efficiency, strategy and risk appetite optimization and company culture enhancing initiatives.

  • Provide credit and leadership coaching to Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers and Team Leaders within area of influence and partner with senior business leadership to collaboratively work as a team to deliver on shared goal of generating healthy loan growth while also maintaining sound credit quality.

  • Contribute to internal Credit Review and regulatory exam coordination and management as it relates to assigned portfolios and related products or services.

  • Member of Bank Credit Risk Management Subcommittees: ACL (allowance for credit losses) Committees, Credit Policy Committee, Model Validation Committees, Project Improvement Teams, and Regional Strategy/Risk Appetite Setting Teams.

  • Periodic risk-based presentations and risk appetite and strategy/policy formation to Senior Risk Committees and Executive Management.

  • Participate in community related activities and exemplify the Credo in all activities.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years consumer credit risk management experience:

  • Small Business Banking lending expertise a plus

  • First Line and Second Line experience preferred.

  • Cross functional credit risk experience (portfolio management, forecasting, governance, modeling, etc.) a plus

  • Experience guiding credit culture and oversight framework to ensure adequacy of risk/reward balance, regulatory compliance, governance structure, risk appetite, and credit policy assurance and conformance.

  • Leadership background with a strong attention to detail, fast change of pace, and a broad involvement in accountability across many partners and stakeholders

  • Possess analytical knowledge and abilities to strategically influence digitization, automation, and growth initiatives to ensure credit transparency and performance within strategic objectives and risk appetite.

  • Experience with analysis of local, regional, and national economic conditions and their impacts on portfolio performance and downstream impacts on loss forecasting, risk appetite, stress testing, and loan loss reserves

  • Ensure adherence to portfolio appetite, credit policies and all related administrative procedures.

  • Required ability to influence activities and collaboration of non-direct report partnership and stakeholder teams.

  • Credit authority and accountability of policy approval and exception underwriting.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • MBA in an analytical field a plus

Hours & Work Schedule: Hybrid 3 days in the office/2 remote

  • Hours per Week: 40

  • Work Schedule: Monday -Friday
